I really love this song right now. Bishop Allen are a really great band, The Broken String was one of my top 10 records of last year. Perhaps I initially overlooked this song because there are so many great songs on the record that also deserve your undivided attention. There is also a version of this song on their February EP, which is my favourite of their month EPs. I can't quite decide if I prefer the album or EP version. I actually quite like the more whiny vocals on the EP, but I love the gang vocals on the album for the "Who do you need? Nobody! You're lucky nobody's around." line. Maybe it's because the song perhaps reflects how I feel about maybe (or maybe not, depending on my results) going to university. The song is serious and quite sad, but is so upbeat, when I sing some bits I can't help but nod in agreement and also laugh and smile at how things are, especially the parts about Mr Whiskers, and the "you cry in the bath, cry so hard that you laugh". Furthermore, I love Justin's voice and accent! I love the way he pronounces his words, it sounds so smooth and poppy and pleasing to the ears. The finale "and you're gorgeous in your evening gown" is a sweet ending to a fantastic song, that offers alot more than you may initially think.
