I love Jaymay. Jaymay, Jamie Seerman, originally hails from New York. I've been really into her record Autumn Fallin' these past few months. I first heard Autumn Fallin' towards the end of last year, and it didn't initially grab me. I didn't delete it, but only really fell in love with it this year when the title track from the album came up when I was listening to songs on shuffle on my ipod (whilst brushing my teeth before bed, I was then unable to sleep because I had to listen to it again about 15 times). I wish I fell in love with all artists I am destined to love straight away. St Vincent is another artist I initially overlooked (I first heard Marry Me in May last year, but didn't love it until September). Anyway, back to Jaymay. She has a gorgeous voice. I can't help but kick myself for missing a show she did on May 1st. I remember it because I considered going, but chose against it because I had just been to that venue 2 days prior to the Jaymay show, to see Nicole Atkins, and it is so expensive to get to London, and then there's the ticket cost on top of that.... anyway, I passed on it and now I regret it. Jaymay seems to love London so I'm not too worried as I'm sure I'll get a chance to see her. She is playing a show with Nada Surf later this year but it is in a huge seated venue, so I think I'll just wait until she announces a headline show, which will be in a more intimate venue. When I was on holiday recently, I was missing my guitar alot. While my dad and sister went shopping I made a xylophone out of bottles and glasses and tried to sound notes (it didn't work), here's a picture:
So anyway, after my failed xylophone I ate my dinner then listened to Jaymay on my ipod. She sings the perfect lyric that summed up exactly how I felt "I feel so helpless now my guitar is not around and I'm struggling with the xylophone to make these feelings sound". I couldn't help but smile. I love it when music makes me break out into a big smile. This also happens alot with her song Blue Skies, which has the lyric "Nothing but blue skies always on my mind, blue skies on my mind, I promised your blue eyes I would never be unkind, but there will always be, there will always be unkind people". I think whenever I listen to that song it's always raining, and I can't help but smile. I can't wait to see her next time she headlines here. Thanks Jaymay.
