I know, I know, EVERYONE loves Jenny Lewis. She's gotten so popular over the last few years. I've been a fan now since 2006 and the release of Rabbit Fur Coat with accompaniment from the wonderful Watson Twins. I loved it since I first heard it when it came out. It's one of my favourite records. I was disappointed with Under The Blacklight, but I hold high hopes for her '08 release Acid Tongue. I have heard the title track and really enjoy it. I love Carpetbaggers (but not with Elvis Costello!). All in all this is one of the records I am most excited about this year. With the imminent release of a new record it has got me thinking about Rabbit Fur Coat. I love that record. So many good bits, like right now I am listening ro Rise Up With Fists!! and I just adore the verse "Are you really that pure sir? I thought I saw you in Vegas. It was not pretty, but she was.... (not your wife)". The Watson twins chime in so perfectly on that song, and their voices all merge together so beautifully and melodically, especially in the ironically gospel-like track Born Secular. The record has brought me so much joy, I remember when I first heard M Ward whispering those words "say goodnight Jenny" on the closer track (not counting the reprise of Happy), It Wasn't Me. I had listened to that album about 50 times already for about a year and a half before I heard that whisper. It's because people were being noisy and I had my music up really loud whilst working at the computer. I stopped working and played it again and couldn't help but smile ear to ear. I told my friends in the common room but they probably weren't interested, however it was the best thing ever at the time and it made me really happy. You Are What You Love was the track that really hooked me in. I still love that song. I see team Jenny have announced some tour dates in Europe in October, when she announces a London date I'll probably fall off my chair. I'm dying to see her. I just wish she'd bring the Watson Twins too, they're 2008 release Fire Songs is really enjoyable. I preordered Acid Tongue so I get it signed, hopefully I'll pick up the vinyl somewhere too.... exciting stuff!
