Au Revoir Simone

I love Au Revoir Simone. Sometimes I just want to gush about a band I love. Their 2007 release "The Bird of Music" was one of my favourite records of last year. Their voices work together so brilliantly, and they really know how to make some beautiful sounds come out of their keyboards and drum machine. My favourite song of theirs is "A Violent Yet Flammable World", it was one of my favourite songs of last year. They sing so gorgeously and the song really soars and has an amazing atmosphere and feel to it. The lyric "you're flying when your foreign eyes trace the heights of the city" comes to mind every time I see London coming over the hill, but it really reminds me of New York City. I love New York, and I have the vision of the Manhattan skyline imprinted in my mind from the perspective of the back of a cab headed to JFK, which is always my last proper sight of the city, it's breath taking. And then the song ends with the wonderful layered vocals which are just so brilliant, you just have to play the song again, just for the moments where their vocals are inter-twining and escalating into something so perfect. Not only are the girls super talented, they are also really nice and down to earth. If I ever have a question to message them, they always answer it in detail and always thank me profusely for any compliments I give. Heather recently started a blog which can be found here: http://www.hellopoindexter.info/. I don't know a great deal about the band members personal interests and likes, but the blog is a really good read. She's done an interview with a scientist which isn't the type of thing I come across, but it was very enjoyable. Heather is clearly very intelligent and articulate making the blog a real delight to read. In a recent post she wrote a little about some songs which may appear on the band's forthcoming album. It has been almost 2 years since I saw the girls in person, when they were supporting We Are Scientists in 2006, I left a comment saying it's exciting to hear about the new record and I'm excited to see them play sometime. Heather replied saying they will be playing a bunch of England shows next spring, and that I should come over and introduce myself at a show. How nice is that? I am listening to The Bird of Music right now, and I have to say, Au Revoir Simone are one of my favourite bands. I have a lot of favourite bands, but sometimes Au Revoir Simone are just so soothing and the perfect band for my mood. I can't wait for their new record and to see them play next year. Fantastic.
Here is their myspace where you can hear some songs:
and here is their website where you can purchase their stuff (The Bird Of Music is available on vinyl LP, snatch it up! I have my copy already:) ! ):
